A foremost goal of the association as stated in its constitution is "to promote awareness and interest of the Philippine culture and heritage to the community." The first awardee for tonight dedicated her time since coming to the United State teaching a talent and skill that she mastered back in the Philippines, to our children here in the area. For these children, the awareness of the Filipino culture was a hands-on experience that they enjoyed, and keep on enjoying, and will never forget. And what other Filipino culture is better to impart to our young ones than Filipino Folk Dancing? In recognition of her effort in years of teaching and training our children and keeping alive our very own Alay ng Pilipinas Folk Dance Troupe, I am honored to give the night’s first Outstanding Kabayan Award toDiana D’Onofrio.
